Batch Capture Craps out after 1st clip

rajinder wrote on 4/13/2002, 7:44 PM
Sharp VL-WD450U
PCI OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 card
Sonic Foundry Video Captrure 3.0a

The first clip seems to get captured just fine, but when "Seeking" for the next cut in mark, it fast forwards to about 10 seconds prior to the mark, goes into Play, then cruises rightg on past. The "Current location" displays the time code and it just keeps on going. If I "skip this clip", it sometimes finds the next, but that's about as far as I've gotten it to go. When I Canel or "Skip this Tape", the preview screen turns black, and I get no more video signal. The transport controls work, but no signal is bing previewed.

I often have to re-boot to bring it back...

HELP ... if anyone know's of a good batch capture program, I would really really like to know about it.

Thanks

Some people swear by Scenalyzer. YOu can find it on the web.

Hi DaveT2, I realy appreciate your speedy assistance! I'll check out SceneAnalyzer. I've got 24 hours of video which I captured a low res version (Pinnacle Studio 400) and have catalogued 1500 clips. I then use Studio 400 to make the rough cut of the story, which I can then copy/paste into an Access database to produce a noce edit list, with descriptive names, source tape and in/out marks (from 8mm TC). I now want to "feed" this list to a batch capture program which will capture from my DV version of the same 24 hours.

I should have tested the Vegas Batch Capture beore I spent alose to an entire day writing a program to read the database and poke the clip list into Vegas Capture!

Again, thanks for the help

Hello, I have a Sharp VL-WD450U cam and was wondering what you thought about it.
Thanks a lot

Well, I've got a couple problems. Most frustrating is the ergonomics. when inserting a tape (which in itself is funky) I'm always hitting the Gamma and Auto buttons. Another thing is that the Zoom occaisionally unzooms itself if I have it on a tripd for some time. The CODEC card also burps when there is too much fast movement of pattern. (e.g. walking down a mountain path, the image will freez for a plit second then catch up).

What do you think ?

I use it mostly as a VTR and have no problems yet.
As a camera I had no problems at this time.
What is the CODEC card problem, I don't understand...

Please post your email address and I'll directly contact you regarding your Batch Capture troubles.

My first question is do your tapes contain continuous timecode?

Hi deef,

Thanks for the response. please email me rsingh123@attbi.com

I believe that the tape should have a solid time code. I originally shot the footage on HI8, and then fed that into the DV camcorder from start to end of DV tape (they were brand new tapes)

Well, I really don't know if it's CODEC hardware or software or how it all works. The problem occurs when there is too fast/jerky camera panning (beyond what you would normally use unless you were making Blair Witch). What happens is that the recorded video freezes on a frame for about (I haven't measured it) 1/4 second and then jumps to the current frame. This happens whether I'm shooting with the camera or if I'm recording analog tape in.
