batch changing of default still time and fx transitions

Hi, I have made a slide show with about 450 stills. I would like to change the default time to 8 sec. I found out how to do it on this forum by using the shift/options. It does not change the stills that are there only those I add. I know I can change them one at a time but I have 450 still and music already in there an done.

Anyone know how to change the default time on the

a) entire timeline after still have been added
b) how to change the time on a selected group of stills so I can use diferant times per group
c) how to add a transition (page peel, crossfade, etc.) to a selected group.

Thanks Robert

PS I found VF on the MGI VideoWave Forum and I converted. VF Rules!

For a), you can select all the stills on the timeline, press G to group them, and then Ctrl-drag the end of the last still to adjust the lengths all at the same time. Ctrl-drag to the left to shorten them or to the right to lengthen them. This adjusts both the duration and the crossfade/effect time proportionately; there is no way to adjust one and keep the other the same with this method.

For b), do as above but select only the group of stills you want to change. They must be continuous with no unselected stills inbetween.

For c), sorry, no. Vegas 4 has some of these features though.

Thanks for the help, worked great. To bad can't do batch transitions. Do you know an easy way to set it up before I start importing the stills or is it a one at a time job?

Thanks again Robert

I have another question(s). I have been playing with group and it works but, I change the duration of the stills, the transition changes too and that is good but I have to clear the group to change one still in the middle and as soon as I move any still in that group all the transitions disaper. Is that just the way it is?

No to item c. Too bad. Like slatergeneral I too have hundreds of stills. Adding transitions automatically would be a huge timesaver. This just seems too obvious to not have that kind of functionality in the product.

I think the point here is that SonicFoundry has to maintain a feature discrepency between VideoFactory and Vegas. Some features may be blatantly obivous and useful, but are included in Vegas only simply because Vegas costs more. If you want to do more, upgrade to Vegas. If you want VideoFactory to do more of these features, then the price would have to go up. When designing VideoFactory, SonicFoundry picked a good set of core features to include in a rock solid piece of software at a bargain basement price.

Of course, no matter which set of features they chose, there will always be users out there who would have made slightly different choices.

Agreed, I think VF is a solid product at a great price and with great functionality.

But what are the four things you want to do when creating slide shows: make each slide the same length, apply a transition between slides (probably a common one), add music, and, possibly, add text. I can do all of these things except the automatic transition. Some of these are not as easy to accomplish as other tools which are dedicated to making slide shows, but if it means being able to stick with one editor then the trade-off is probably worth it. There are many differences between Vegas and VF, and many things a user might want to do with a slideshow. But the four I listed above are, IMHO, the basics.
