Batch converter bug? Field order wierdness

Hi,

This one's primarily for SoFo support, but any assistance is welcome.

In my quest for a decent frame rate on my firewire previews, I have experimented somewhat with Vegas prerenders and found that SoFo's PAL DV setting gives me a nice smooth 25fps preview through the firwire/camera setup. So far, so ordinary...

My media was captured with Canopus EZDV and therefore uses the Canopus codec. In Vegas the hardware assistance of the Canopus codec seems to be ignored (in much the same way as playback in Windows Media Player slow and choppy), but prerendering to the PAL DV setting with Upper field first (as used by my Canopus files) is silky smooth.

Rather than capture the whole 6 hours of footage again and risk dropped frames with Batch Capture, I played about with Batch Convertor 5 (the latest revision as of 3rd Jan 2003) and found that although I select the PAL DV template and modify the video to be upper field first, resultant video is lower field first and suffers from streakiness especially during high motion.

Is this a known issue with Batch Converter?

Just to add some extra info, in Vegas' media pool wiindow it correctly displays the field order and codec for my Canopus files. However, with the batch converted ones it simply says DV.

Any help here would be appreciated, I don't really want to grab and split the original tapes again.

Many thanks

Steve Gardiner
