batch Converting formats in Vegas?

I am helping a friend convert several Videos from one format to another.

I found that Vegas does a better job (in the case raw Avi to mpeg2) than AVS and other things I currnetly have installed and paid for.
(I used to have tmpgenc express - but with their crazt licnesing I see mto have lost it)

Currently though - I have to drag each file to the Vegas work area - then do a render as.

with the conversion tools (AVS etc) I can just drag a whole bunch and make the settings. Then clikc start

Any way I can do this in Vegas - in order of pref.
1- without add-ons or a script
2- without add-ons but with a simple script
3- without cost add-ons
4- with add-ons that cost more but give me other benefits too

I've been using the Multirenderer in Peachrock's Veggie Toolkit for over 5 years to do this. Sorry you have to pay for this but there's a fully functional trial available.

Place all the files on the timeline, double click on each one and set a region by hitting "R", then use the "Batch Render" script that comes with Vegas. Select an output template, check "Render Regions" and pull the trigger, each region will render to a separate file. If you name the regions, each file that the Batch Render script renders will have the region name for the filename.

John,

I'm no good at Vegas scripting; could you please advise how to add a format to the "Batch render" script?

The format I need is XDCAM EX 1080/25p (50i is OK, but the "P" flag should be set). Same for all the MXF 422 formats...

TIA
Piotr

I haven't had much time to experiment with "Proxy Stream", but I believe it will do what you want. See: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=738159

The script doesn't have all the render formats built in to the script, it just lists all the available templates, including any custom templates.

Just create a custom template by going "File" > "Render As", select "Sony MXF" as your "Save as Type", select a template that's closest to your desired parameters and hit the "Custom" button. Modify the existing template and save it with a new name. This custom template will then be available in the Batch Render script.

Thanks a lot, John - didn't have an idea it works this way (thought the formats are hard-coded into the script).

BTW, it turns out that my "Sony MXF 1080/25p 4:2:2 50 Mbps" template, which I've been using a lot, is already present in the script - I just didn't notice it, as I wasn't expecting it to be there :)

Thanks again

Piotr
