batch rendering in Veg10?

kairosmatt wrote on 2/14/2011, 6:41 AM
When I try batch rendering, the first clip is fine, but every clip after that messed up. Its like it renders the video in a box with a frame around it-the frame could be video from another clip or just wierd shifting color patterns.

I thought this was just when rendering to Cineform or Raylight AVIs since 10 has really screwed them up, but alas it happens when I batch render to XDCAM EX and MPEG2 as well.

It happens with 10b and 10c 32-bit and 64-bit on an XP machine and a Vista 64 machine.

Any one else seeing this?

I just tried putting 4 generated media events on the TL, making each a region & then batch rendering to NTSC DVDA 4:3 template & 16:9 template. The 4:3 filled the screen & the 16:9 had black bars on the left/right, just as expected.

10c on Vista-32. I have 10b on my video editing machine & I haven't seen any issues with batch rendering. Could you post up a video of what you're seeing? Maybe there's something on your TL you're not noticing (I love the new track group feature but am finding it really easy to forget where my events actually are! :) )

Thanks,
I'll post a vid this afternoon.

Its very strange because if I render loop regions individually (rendar as instead of batch render) I get results as expected.

It may have something to do with the source media since its happened from a GoPro and a Kodak Playsport, which seem to share the same AVCHD implementation (I can playback GoPro media on the Playsport).

I'll also try with some AVIs and see if I get the same things.

Do any of your templates you're using have a stretch-to-fill checkedbox or at a different resolution compared to the project? I've seen that generate issues (but they're not really issues, just something I didn't expect that should happen by design).

EDIT: I duplicated my results in 10b on XP32.

Something very strange is going on because now I can't repeat the problem at all!!

Batch rendering now works (Man this forum is good!!?)

Unfortunately I already deleted all the files that were messed up so I don't have those examples.

But now I can't read new XDCAM EX files in Vegas 8. Or new GoPro files either. The old ones still work. In fact there is a folder where I can read one GoPro file but not the other two. And everything reads correctly in Vegas 10.

I'm looking at processes running things look pretty lean, nothing suspicious. Haven't installed any new codecs lately either. Ran Trend Micro and came up with nothing.

Only thing I did recently was install Vegas 10 and update Cineform, Raylight and then (grrr) updated Vista as well.
{EDIT: but this was before everything started acting up, ie between it rendering wierd and righting itself nothing was updated}

Something screwy is going on, still trying to hunt it down

Okay narrowed it down a bit more....

When you run batch render as a script in-between renders the script temporarily reverts to regular editing mode (for a split instance).

Possibly depending on preview settings and render settings (best(full) for example) the preview screen will temporarily resize. When it does this the preview window is filled with the media wherever the cursor is.

Then the render kicks in and the preview window for the render than it was for regular preview. For some reason it still shows the bigger preview window on the outside of the smaller window which is showing you what it is rendering.

Now, before this image was what was actually recorded into my files. For some reason that is no longer the case, even though it looks like it while rendering. Strange.

And I still can't figure out why new XDCAM and AVCHD files aren't previewing in Vegas 8.

There are definitely some render bugs that come and go because I've stumbled upon a new one.

Raylight AVIs smart render. I have some 720 files that I want to smart render into smaller bunches, but they no longer smart render. Unless I take the exact same template and change the resolution to 1080. Then it does smart render, however it goes into a little 720 box in the corner of the 1080 file.
(EDIT: its actually a 720 by 960 box)

I took a pic this time before deleting, just in case this bug takes a break!

Interesting bug. :) I thought only DV AVI & HDV files smartrendered, everything else had to be re-rendered.

Thanks THF! Vegas 10 has been keeping me on my toes.....

HDV smart rendering has been working correctly for me so far.

I know that Cineform and Raylight AVIs smart render. Maybe Logarith and YUV as well?

I honestly don't know, I either acquire in DV or HDV, don't really render to anything else besides mpeg-2 DVD except for specific circumstances.
