BCC 3D objects OFX crashes V21

Mindmatter wrote on 7/12/2025, 1:00 PM

HI all
I just had the weirdest issue. I had an event in a V21 project that hat a BCC 3D text FX on it.

As soon as I clicked on it and pressed delete, Vegas crashed. Sometimes just clicking on it would crash v21 too.
I had to temporarily rename the corresponding BCC folder

C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins\BorisFX\Continuum\BCC_OFX_3DObjects.ofx.bundle\Contents\Win64\BCC_OFX_3DObjects.ofx

to seactivate it and could finally delete the event. By now I also think that this particular plugin created other crashes in that project.
Luckily the crash report pointed me to the problem for once.

Can you be more specific in which plugin in Boris FX 3D Objects are you using? What version is it?

Thanks, this is my screenshot.

I was using BCC extruded text.

Did you do the maintenance update that was released a couple of days ago? It's 18.5.1

Go to your Boris account, log in, Support>Downloads and download the latest build. Your build is from May, mine is from 3 days ago.

Yes, thanks, I had seen your recent post and updated to 18.51.
I just tried reopening the project I had ported to V21 because of the render crashes back into V22, after updating to build 250.
Instant total crash, after a short big message " BFX error code 25".

At least in my system, something with BCC and V22 is really seriously messed up.It's absolutely unusable at this point, but V21 still works without issues now that the critical Bfx event has been deleted.
I'm close to spending as much time troubleshooting as editing these days.

The only real difference between our systems is in GPU's.

Boris does a clean uninstall before installing an update. I asked a while ago if they had something like a "cleanup" utility, and was informed that the installation of the software does all of that. So it works in VP21, and not VP22 B25j0, where it works for me. Have you tried resetting?

So I gave it y try resetting V22. It actually did help, but I still get the total black screen / disappearing crashes 1-2 times per hour.V21 is somewhat clumsier it seems, but crashes far less often. So back to V21 after al.

Someone with Boris FX and Nvidia will have to comment further on these issues. I've not had them with the maintenance release of Continuum on my all AMD computer.

@Mindmatter I have used Boris FX quite a lot in 2024 with VP22, no issues with NVIDEA, but things with drivers, Vegas and Boris Versions, milage may be different at times...

That being said, you can always exclude (enable /disable) the GPU HW acceleration in each BORIS FX plugin individual if you experience an issue.
