BCF2000 problem

Nat wrote on 10/23/2004, 4:34 PM
I just got the BCF2000.

Loaded the latest firmware so I could get the Mackie Control emulation mode. Loaded that. Works fine in Vegas but I noticed a problem. If the app is not focused (another window is open) I will loose the ability to send data from the controller, refocusing on the app won't solve the problem. If I move a fader in cubase, it will move on the controller, but if I move a fader on the controller, vegas won't receive the data and the fader will go back to the value of the fader on screen.

Any ideas ?

Checked again and it seems the problem happens randomnly...

Yow Nat,

I now have the BCF2000 and have had this happen a couple of times

Random as you say, can't tie down an exact sequence as it has only happened a couple of times.

Interesting, this means it's either Vegas or the MC emulation that is faulty...

We'll have to see.
Otherwise it works fine.
I love the fact that it will allocate a fader on the controller for the master fader.
In Cubase you only get normal channels. The transport is also well implemented, pressing a second time on play will pause. In cubase it does nothing.

What OS are you both running? I have been waiting for a product like this for years, but I am still running 98se, because my computer is a dedicated music machine and I find that os very stable and slim, compared to the super bulky xp.
another question is about setup? was it simple? and are you using the midi or usb?
Nat wrote on 10/25/2004, 5:06 PM
Using USB.
Setup is VERY easy.
boot up in Mackie Control mode. Add a Mackie control in Vegas and voilà!

For the price it's a great little unit.

I guess it'll work under 98. I use XP since 2001 and you would need to pay me a lot of money to switch back to 98. I never had any stability issues. I can however understand your feeling, it's a bit like the mac guys when OSX came out, but they have almost all switched now. Nice this is that XP is mostly backward compatible but OSX is not.

My only problem (apart from needing to LEARN how to use the control surface !) is that the BCFView applet BSODs in usbohci.sys on closing it. But I haven't done XP SP2 (or SP1 !) yet. That's not a Vegas problem though...

Maybe we should start a new 'topic' for users to add their names as BCF2000 users. Hopefully if enough punters let it be known they are keen, we may be able to get native support in Vegas. Would there there any benefit in native support ? Are SoSoFo in contact with Behringer ?

Sure, it's not a Mackie, and some metal bits are in fact plastic, but US$249 !!!!

Native support would let us map the controls as we want and still get feedback.

I'd love to see native support, because the default mapping doesn't make sense to me.
Nat wrote on 10/26/2004, 6:32 PM
Indeed, the Generic remote could also support data feedback like in Cubase/Nuendo.

I did send a note to Behringer support about a Vegas/Mackie emulation to have better mapping and got a "keep checking the web site" response which didn't really indicate if it was on thier agenda.

Nat, the not responding issue happended again. I did notice this time that the previous Vegas session had left a zombie Vegas5 process running in the background which I assume had a hold of the MIDI input still hence the lack of response from the BCF2000

Don't know if that helps any

I've seen the zombie Vegas process, too. I've taken to making sure all Vegas processes are dead when I exit.

PAW : noticed that also...
I agree the mapping is odd, It was hard to find the button to switch to automation mode.

Few apps support the mackie control and it would be logical that the BCF2000 supports them all. I only hope there's enough memory left...

The Beh-heeren have been a bit busy writing the editor, which is now just released in beta this week.

The editor is really nice but not really useful in Vegas since it can send back midi data...

Boy do I now have a problem, I ran the upgrade to 1.07 of the firmware and it failed during the update.

The BCF2000 nows boots up saying noOS on the LED

According to the Behringer FAQ this means you have to put the device into a bootstrap and reload its brains via the MIDI port

I am trying to do it but the Update utility will not recognise the device or crashes/freezes

Gulp, my BCF2000 is having an identity crisis!

Fixed using Bomes sendsx utlity - attaching my cable to the MIDI out port instaed of leaving it on the MIDI in port may have also helped :-)

That said the Behringer utility still crashed etc - sendsx worked well.
