BD Burning Problems

Hello everyone please read the text I pasted below. I’m trying to finish my BD project in 2 days.

Hello Sony, what can I say about your DVD Architect 5.0 that hasn't already been said on www.toptenreviews.com? How about that it's the best $39 I spent on this type of software, ever. As they mention, there is a bit of a learning curve. However, I prepared most of my DVD project for burning within a day as follows:
1) Full HD .wmv file at a 1920 x 1080 resolution that is 1:56:39 in length. This file is for the main feature & is 7.57 GB. The other files such as for the "special features" menus are of various types & sizes.
2) A main page with a looping MPEG background media. There is main feature, scene selection, & special features thumbnails (3). One of the special features has a submenu with 3 thumbnails.
3) There are 4 scene selection pages dividing 27 chapters set at 8 thumbnails per page..
4) Almost all thumbnails are JPEG's as well as the background media besides the homepage/Main menu.
5) Project size fits a DVD DL.
The DVD project went without a hitch. The preview disc menu worked exactly as the end product. I tried the DVD in a computer as well as a stand-alone DVD player. It works perfectly & navigates without hesitation. But a DVD even with the highest quality video resolution isn't as good as a Blu-ray. So, I'm trying to produce a Blu-ray (BD) disc. Here are the BD procedures & the problem I'm having:
1) An MPEG-2 file produced at BD quality with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. This file is 19.0 GB.
2) A main menu with a main features button & scene selections button.
3) 4 scene selection pages dividing 27 chapters like the DVD project.
To begin my BD project, I used the “save as” function from the file menu. Then, having a separate file to work with, I replaced the DVD main feature (.wmv) file with the MPEG-2. Now, with the main feature & special features the total file size was 24.1 GB. This was well within the 25 GB “target media” size. However, I notice the BD-RE discs reads as 22.5 GB available & the
BD-R reads as 23.3 GB available. So, the project would not fit on the available media even with the "fit to disc" option chosen. But for Blu-ray I would rather have the maximum bit rate anyway. So, I removed all other items except for the main feature & its 27 chapters. So now the total projects file size of 22.4 GB. Just like with the DVD the disc preview works flawlessly, navigates, & plays with no problem.

However, a problem arises during the burning process. All appears to be going well but the disc ejects with 11 min. remaining on the disc burning countdown. After disc ejection the dialog box indicates that the process was done successfully & asked if I would like to burn another just like the DVD. I played the BD disc & it plays very well & I notice the difference in resolution. However, just before the last 3 chapters, the soundtrack is off by approximately 1 to 2 seconds. Note, I repeated the burning process 3 times on BD-RE & once on BD-R with the same results. I need your help to get my BD working correctly thanks.

Do you have a separate audio file? If not, you should have. DVDA likes the video and audio to be in separate files.

Also note that DVDA is conservative about files fitting onto a disc. It might say it won't fit when it will. If in doubt burn to a folder only and check its size.

Thanks I will try that. I just got Vegas studio Platinum 11 & having the same problem.

You didn't specifically say you had problems with this, but here are a couple of ideas that may help . . .

VMS

In your Project Properties, have you selected Match Media Settings? You will find this setting in Video tab of your Project Properties. Go there and hover your mouse over the icon to the far right of the Template line. In my version the icon appears as a filmstrip icon. In VMS it may appear as a folder icon. But the words "Match Media Settings" will display when you hover your mouse over the icon. Follow the prompts.

Once you have done that, go to Render As. For now, choose the Save As type to be MainConcept MPEG-2.

Now for your render Template choose the Blu-ray template that has the equals ( = ) sign next to it. That is the template that should (in theory) go through DVD-A without further rendering. You can experiment with other Save As types. Just be sure to choose the Blu-ray template with the equals ( = ) sign.

Note you should render your audio separately.

DVD-A

Check DVD-A's Help/Contents and Index and search for "Recompression, Avoiding" or a similar phrase. I'm using DVD-A 5.2 so my Help topics may not have identical titles to yours.

In the Help it will tell you the audio and video file formats that DVD-A can process without rendering. There should be direction as to which VMS templates to choose for DVD-A. Note that VMS may have to render your AVCHD footage in order to get it into a format that does not require rendering in DVD-A. Note the audio format for BD may be different than DVD if you wish to avoid recompression (rendering).

You can choose Optimize disk to see if your files have the checkmark (no rendering required) or the yellow exclamation (must be rendered) and as you know this will also give you and estimated project size.

So the big deal with recompression (rendering) is that it can degrade the quality of your output, it requires computer processing power hence it slows the process, and it may affect the file size, which in turn may cause other problems for your BD disk.

Good luck!
