BD-R life expectancy?

I am archiving a bunch of stuff onto BD-R. I have an external writer but an internal reader on my laptop, so this will save me juggling so many DVD+-Rs.

My question is if anyone has an estimate yet of how long BD-Rs will last. Hopefully it will be a bit longer than the four or five years max I seem to get with DVD+-Rs.

The higher data density alone would suggest the opposite would be the case. Even if that wasn't the case the amount of data that will be lost due to a single disk failure says your library will be less reliable.

Bobs answer is dead on.

That's pretty funny.

Never thought of it like that. :)
