Beating a dead horse ...seperate Audio/video forums

fosko wrote on 12/18/2001, 12:36 PM
It's all been said before. I know SF hears. My assumption is the answer is either "NO" or "we are working on it". Either way . .how about addressing it.

I understand that in someways Vegas is one product, but there are 2 distinct sets of users. And..as stated in MANY previous posts, your audio users are feeling like they are being tossed aside. All Cubase, Logic, and Cakewalk has to do is get a hold of that vibe and you WILL lose your audio customer base. There's just too much competitoon.

I LIKE Vegas. I was a die hard VST fan untillI accidently fell upon Vegas and havn't looked back since. AndI use it for Adio and Video equally. But it's sooo much easier to weed through posts when you know what product they are addressing.

Just my day to vent I guess.

I'm a hard core audio user and used to check the forum everyday and provide lots of input and get great feedback. Now every time I check it (once every two weeks maybe) I slosh through all these video posts that do nothing for me. Separate forum, PLEASE!
(Again, not holding out much hope.)

And what makes it so bad for bgc is he can't tell what's audio and what's video. You almost have to weed through 2 weeks of posts

I have the flip side view. When you have a product that does both audio and video, splitting contents would mean looking into two forums assuming you have interest in both video and audio. Besides, Sonic Foundy has several other audio products and forums that are much more audio slanted.

What I think would be nice is updated forum software. This isn't the latest or greatest. For example of something that gets much more on the screen in one gulp check out the forums at http://vcdhelp.com

Crap I almost couldn't see straight for a second...Too much on one screen dude. I don't like sites that make me squint to see whats going on. Though I do agree with you on this forum needing to be updated. If you go to www.cubase.net and look at their forum setups...much easier to understand and work through. My only comment on having two different forums [video/audio] is that I doubt it will be that busy of a site. Vegas is too intuitive and stable for anyone to really take the time to stop working to ask a question that gets answered right away once you experiment a bit. Coming from using cubase with all the workaround crap to this program...Haven't needed to ask anything yet. Kind of like it this way though...keep it up sofo! We'll see after the next upgrade...heads will role [need a spell check dammit!] if the upgrade doesn't even compete with Sonar in any way. I will be PISSED!!! Later.

Since we have a topic about the forum software itself, let me ask if anyone
else is experiencing this ....

When my browser loads each forum page, the screen will go completely
white and the message "Document Done" appears at the bottom of the
screen. Then all my browser windows and even some other applications
just stop running for a while (anywhere from 2 to 20 seconds), and then
the page appears on the screen.

First i thought, hey, maybe it's just because i'm running Netscape 4.78
on this old dumpy 75MHz machine at work and all SF's website is written
in Active Server Pages, so it's just a bad fit. So i tried it on my 866 PIII
with MSIE 5.5 and the same thing happens! I occasionally see a little
of this on some other sites, but never as consistantly and never as bad.
I really wouldn't mind so much if the only thing affected was the browser
window showing the forum page, but it brings almost everything else on
my desktop to a halt too. Hmmmm.

Anyone else see this at all?

I would like them to remain together on the same forum, I can usually tell from the post title if it's audio or video related. Never saw an audio post with the words PAL, MPEG, AVI, DEInterlace..etc. It does annoy me that you have to load a new page just to read a reply and it takes 15 minutes to read ALL the replies, instead of being able to browse through them quickly like in the Protools and Nuendo forums.

What I would like to see is a seperation of NEW "I don't have a fucking clue and don't want to spend the time reading the help menu" USER FORUM and PRO "Let's share some helpful tips with one another" USER FORUM.

Can I have another AMEN!?

I agree, there should be separate Vegas video and audio forums. I'm 100% audio and would find an audio only forum MUCH more useful.

As said before, the products are the same, but the users are not always.

Sometimes the Subject tells you if its Audio or Video, but oftimes you see something like "I havea problem", or "CHECK THIS OUT",or "HELP ME PLEASE".

Someone once suggested, in lue of seperate forums starting the subject with "VV:" for Vegas Video or "VA:" for vegas audio.

Helps some, but I'd still like to see it sepearte (or at least SF tell us why not).

I also yell ahardy "YES!!" to the updsate of the Forum format. This havingto go to a new screen to see replies is a pain. Ever scroll through atopic andwait 30 seconds to read reply 3 of 17, just to see it says "I agree". ? And now you have to click the back button to remind yourself what they were agreeing to in the previous post.

You know . .another thing I thought of is giving indivisual topics permanamt ID numbers. If I wantto follow a particular thread from 3 weeks ago I can jjust goto #42431 instead of scrlling back andforth to find it.

i am not one to complain, but...

i HATE this forum software, especially when other forums allow you to read ALL of the posts w/ ONE page load. if you are on a 56K, it really sucks having to load each separate post.

i would come here a lot more, but i feel like i am wasting too much time. if i do come here, i have to multi-task and read several threads at once to feel like it's worthwhile.

i am just giving my opinion. please choose some other software. any but this current version.

If you'll notice it don't always sort posts in order either. Yours posted on the 22nd, was a couple ahead of posts made on the 21st. Dumb software or someone didn't set it up right.

I agree... we probably would get better participation is the forum software wasn't so clumsy. I visit the http://www.vcdhelp.com site a lot. Check out their neat forums.

What you can do is click on Edit Account above and change the number of posts. Try 25 or 50. :-)
