This happened to me last night, and since I didn't stumble across this symptom/solution anywhere during my 2 hours of searching the Sony Creative site last night, I thought I'd share to help spare anyone else a needless headache...
I opened Vegas 4.0 (yes, I'm old-school like that) and whenever I played back audio there were these digital beeps, and they occurred in every project I opened. I looked online at all of the forums and the best I could figure was it was a sound-card issue, which made no sense since SoundForge still worked fine. It occurs to me that this all was happened after I'd installed a new program, so I uninstalled that, still no luck. Finally in desperation I uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas. Ding! So I pay the cash for a 60-day Sony tech-support deal so I can actually talk to someone to figure out what happened. The tech support guy thinks somehow that other program I installed (which incidentally was an older version of Acid) might have corrupted my Vegas registry, so Vegas thought it was an expired demo version and that's what caused the beeps. That's right, the beeps are what happens if you try using Vegas past the free 30-day trial period. I've never used Vegas as a demo, so I didn't know this.
My question: WHY IS THAT INFO NOT ON THE SONY SUPPORT SITE??? Of all the searches I did, there was nothing even remotely close to that explanation. Anywho, end of rant, and if this happens to you you may just need to re-register the program.
