What for?
You can rightclick the area and choose set selection to view. Or to project. But I don't see whay you want to clear it. Of course, if you make another selection, the first goes away. But it's like sticky paper, you can't just throw it.

You can make it go away ifyou're in Vegas 5 by going to Options>Preferences>General and checking the tick box for scrolling cursor. Depending on how you work, you may or may not like this change in the way the cursor/selections work.
Welcome to the Forum and Vegas. As you can see, three pretty good responses in a couple of hours, with no flames. One can learn a lot here--I certainly have.
I was just writing myself some notes for the VASST Vegas 5 seminars that Spot and I are doing, and not twenty seconds ago I typed "to break free from a time selection, hit the right arrow key".
Hitting the right arrow key (or the left) un-selects the selection, but it does not un-mark it (for lack of a better description). The yellow triangles are still there. With Edward's suggestion, the selection collapses, the triangles stick to each side of the cursor and moves with it. That looks awkward to me, but then, I don't have a problem with these selections in the first place.

Thanks everybody.
Probably , my concern stemmed from thinking the markers posed an inadvertent-editing risk. What, with little appreciation of hot-keys I might hit.
You know -- looking up at the screen and !!WHAT HAPPENED TO MY!!...
That whole thing.
