does anyone know how to get some better looking backdrops into this cool program? the ones supplied just look like old school nintendo games.

You can always create your own, both graphically with the built-in background tools or by capturing appropriate close-ups of various materials. If you have a digital still camera that can shoot close-ups it's easy. You can also use your video camera in macro mode to capture textures and surfaces.
They arent cheap, but the Jump Backs series from Digital Juice (www.digitaljuice.com) are very cool.
Not the greatest quality since most textures are geared towards the web, but it has a big selection and best of all its free. Plus the site includes sound effects.
