Also I can buy a DV camera, some video software and capture that video to my firewire harddrive and I don't have to worry about compatibility.

another nice feature of OHCI is stability. this is because there is only one device driver, and its written by microsoft. hardware manufacturers that create OHCI-compliant hardware do not need to write thier own drivers, as the hardware will be recognized automatically by the windows operating system.

the big drawback of OHCI, of course, is that it doesn't provide the benefits of proprietary technology like in the matrox and pinnacle editing hardware. but computers these days are getting so fast and powerful, the need for proprietary video editing hardware is becoming less and less important.

effortless device control over a broad range of manufacturers ( eg most mini-DV Camcorders, and Recorders ) is another one...
