Best book on learning Vegas?

I saw this book on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/1578202191/ref=cm_cr_dp_2_1/002-5862989-6483215?%5Fencoding=UTF8&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER

If the link does not work, it's Vegas 4 Editing Workshop by Douglas Spotted Eagle. It got some great reviews.

I know Vegas 4 is getting old but there's not that much differences between that and 5. If someone could recommend a good book that will turn a newbie into a pro, I'd really appreciate it. I know and love Vegas, but I'm a beginner as I'm still stupid when it comes to keyframes and a lot of the effects possible in Vegas.

thanks in advance.

I admit I'm biased, but Spot's book is excellent. I refer to it constantly. I've written 17 tech books myself, so only a few books stay in a prominent place on my bookshelf, and that's one of them.

I'd just get Spot's great DVD set, that taught me how to use Vegas, he's brilliant. True story: I'd Never used an NLE before, totally newbie to digital video, after watching Spots 4-DVD set, I am making videos like:

So I'm indebted to the man -- his DVDs are great.. that's one of my reviews on amazon.com..

Where do I get his stuff? Does he have one for Avid as well?

When people say "Spot," they're referring to Douglas Spotted Eagle, the author of the book you saw on Amazon. Amazon shoudl also have a set of DVDs that he did for Vegas 4.

He's already started work on DVDs for Vegas 5 and DVDA 2. Two of them are available at the .

The author posts on this forum as Spot.

Is this the best book on learning Vegas 4. Absolutely. It's one of the only books on Vegas. I saw another one that suppossed to come out, but it didn't seem to be by a video editor, it seemed to be by general software technical writer.

So if you want a book, you should definitely get Spot's book. But the question becomes which one? There will be a version dealing with Vegas 5, but the release date has not been announced yet. He also has DVD products available from his company VASST.

Here's the list of Vegas training materials

http://vasst.com/training_products.htm
http://www.vegastoolsandtraining.com/videos.html
http://www.classondemand.net/ they have a Vegas 4 product and soon a Vegas 5 product

All of the trainers in the above products are well-known in the Vegas community.

If I you know of any Vegas training products I missed, post them here.
There are of course a lot of online tutorials you can check out too.

There is Vegas book by Doug Sahlin called "Naked Vegas 5" that I ran across on amazon.com. Although the book sounds pretty comprehensive, when I read the "about the author" caption, it definitely does not say the author edits with Vegas 5.

Doug Sahlin DEFINITELY doesn't edit with Vegas. In fact, he doesn't really edit at all. He's a web guru.

Thanks for the kind words about the book, Vegas 5 is coming shortly. (both of them)
From VASST in Australia....and a super slow dialup...I've missed being in the forum lately.

Naked Vegas is the book, I was referring to above. I think somebody saw Vegas was getting better sales and the book market wasn't crowded yet.
