I am spending a lot more money with my trial & error purchasing.

I would like recommendations regarding the "best" computer set up for video.

(We are using the system to create still slide shows. Most will probably be 4+ gigs. The end purpose is to VHS and eventually a dvd type format.)

Operating System?
Processor?
Hard drive?
DV Device?
Video Cards?
Sound Cards?
Anything else I need to know?

Windows 2000 Pro, maybe the next year the Win XP Pro.

Processor?

2 x 1000 MHz to infinite (P3, P4, Athlon), I work without troubles with two P3 1000 and a Asus CUV4XD(By the moment I prefer P3), but nothing is enougth.

IDE: the IBM 60 GXP. The next step is a 10 to 15k rpm SCSI drive (Seagate Cheetah, Maxtor Atlas 10K). www.storagereview.com
