Best picture size for ntsc widescreen format show

I am creating a slideshow using jpeg photos. Instead of doing pan and crop, I wanted to resize the pictures in Photoshop and drop into Vegas. What is the best size I should use to get a 16:9 (pixel aspect ratio = 1:2121 (wide screen NTSC) AVI output file. Your input is greatly appreciated.

If you are not going to zoom or pan, but just fill the frame,
Height = Height
Width = Width x PAR

Thus 720x480 @ 1.212 becomes 873x480

Most of this aspect stuff is just fifth grade math . . .

The batch converter in Irfanview will do it in a jiffy.
