Best Property Settings for Color Correcting AVC 10-bit

karma17 wrote on 2/2/2018, 1:00 AM

I was trying to confirm the best property settings for color correcting 10-bit AVC Intra-frame codec.

Here is what I have currently:

Pixel Format: 32-bit floating (full range)

Compositing Gamma: 2.22

ACES Version: 1.0

ACES Color Space: Default

View Transform: Off

Does this look about right? Am I missing anything?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. If I put View Transform on sRGB, it looks crazy unless I change the pixel format to 32-bit floating (video). And then it looks the same with the above settings, so I just leave VT off.

I'd use 32 bit float point video levels instead.

May be some helpful info here:

Some more derails would be helpful:

- Version of Vegas used

- type of footage (so is it log or rec709)

- you wish to grade for rec709?

Version 15, Custom Mode FS7, mostly hypergammas and a couple are slog. Grading for DVD/Blu Ray, mostly 709 I believe.

@Kinvermark Yes, that link answers. If I set View Transform to sRGB, then I need to set the Color Space of the Camera under Media Properties, which in this case was Rec 709. And once I did that, it looks correct!!! I'd seen that tutorial before, but forgot about it. I was doing a comparison between footage color corrected in Resolve vs Vegas, and so far, I honestly can't see any difference.

Basically for slog, you have to set the event attributes to slog2 or slog3, whatever you use. Apply ACES1 in the project settings, and set the transformation to one of the rec709 profiles (has also to be used in the render settings).
