If I import an AVI rather than an MPEG2 file into DVDA, when I get to the render stage I don't seem to still have the 'Best' render option that I had in Vegas. Have I just missed it or isn't it available in DVDA?
I don't see it either. I would assume that it would render it using the default MPEG2 DVD Architect video stream settings. This sets average VBR at about 6 Mbps.
In Vegas you are allowed to change settings for quality in a couple of places. Changing either one doesn't seem to affect the bits/second.
You can kick up the BPS in DVDA but I am unsure if this is going to give you better results than the default template.
What does the Mbps settings in DVDA represent anyway, CBR? It seems high to set a constant at 8Mbps. Or an average for that matter.
When you're preparing with DVDA, hit <Make DVD>; <Prepare or Prepare and Burn> and then <Optimize>. There you'll be allowed to set the bitrate (the defaut seems to be 8,000 Mbps). Anyway, if you're not satisfied with the final result, please do render as MPEG2 with MainConcept that comes with Vegas (VBR/ 2 pass). Not satisfied yet? Please try Canopus Procoder 2.0; TMPGENC Plus or Cinema Craft Encoder. I find TMPGENC an excellent option ;)
