Best render settings to DVD

Your opinion please: in lieu of burning a multitude of DVD-DL at $2 each, can anyone provide their recommended settings for Vegas Pro 8 and DVD Architect 5 to produce the best results when producing a DVD from an AVI file (or files)?

And yes, I know the first option is not to start with an AVI file, but we'll skip that answer. Thanks in advance for your input.

use vegas to render a mpeg-2 @ the appropriate template (modify template settings if necessary) & then put in DVDA.

I use 4.5 though.

Simplest solution: Add the AVI(s) to your DVDA project, then to go File > Optimize Disc, and hit the Fit to Disc button. DVDA will determine the highest bitrate that will allow your video to fit on the disc.

But Vegas has a better MPEG2 encoder.

I thought they were the same, vegas just uses multi-core/cpu/thread.
