Best resource for learning VMS7 Plat

I'm new to VMS7 platinum and the software seems very capable and is usually stable. I'm not finding VMS7 very intuitive (I spent about 4 hours trying to figure out how to crop a video and place it as a picture-in-picture. I got all tangled in parent/child issues and for some unknown reasons some of my cropping and scaling washed over to other segments and I couldn't get them consistent without reloading the project. and starting over...ouch!). Help screens didn't help very much.

Q1: What is the best resource to help me learn how to use VMS7 Plat effectively? I'm interested in DVD, online, or a book if necessary.

Q2: Somebody out there that's used ULEAD Video Studio 10 Plus please reassure me that VMS7 Plat is worth the investment to learn! I'm getting a little discouraged.

I feel your learning curve pain, brother.. but hang in there, it's SO worth it. I came from Pinnacle Studio (7, 8, then version 10). Three strikes and I'm out. Pinnacle Studio is stupid simple to use. However, not even Pinnacle's engineers could make it actually work consistently.

Step one, you should have received a VASST training DVD with VMS 7 Platinum. I think it was gold colored. It's about an hour long and done VERY well. It'll get you "dangerous" fast. I loved it so much I bought the extended version from VASST. It was well worth the money.

It's also a good feeling knowing you can take Sony's product line as far as you want to go. With Pinnacle or ULEAD, where do you go if you outgrow them? With Pinnacle you go to Liquid which is completely different. With Sony VMS you move up to Vegas which you'll know instantly.

Take an hour, watch the video then buy the full version of VASST's training. I also hear there are YouTube versions of the training, but that just seems wrong. YouTube quality is crap and the VASST folks deserve compensation for their awesome training.

I agree with Will, the VASST training DVD is a good place to start.

The "Show Me How" tutorials built into VMS are good as well. Help>Show Me How...

While geared towards full Vegas, JETDV and VASST have lots of good info.

A couple of other places I've bookmarked:

Greenscreen

Sony Vegas 6 Training

NewBlueFX

Duplicating the Picture Frame Effect in the HP Commercials

Thanks Gill and Smart. I just ordered VASST. I did like the starter video they sent, just could use a little more.
