A few months back, I updated to an i7 computer with 16gb RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 (2.5gb memory). C: drive is SSD with O/S and Vegas app. project is on X: drive, rendering to Y: drive.

My 24 minute 1920 x 1080 video rendering time went:
FROM= 4+ hours on Vegas 10, no GPU, CPU maxed out

TO= 53 minutes on the system above. CPU at approx 55%, overall memory usage only 4.5gb (out of 16gb)

SUCCESS. This made me very happy.

Having said that, there are a few things that I would like to understand.

MEMORY usage. Why does the app not take more memory? There is plunty for available.

Dynamic RAM Preview max has defaulted to 200mb. I have read on this forum that others have gotten better performance by lowering this value.

Is there a way or a benefit to allowing VEGAS 11 PRO to use more RAM?

Wow! That's an amazing improvement. Did you render both files on the same system or was the 4hr time on a different system? And if so what were the specs of that system? Also, in VP11 did you have GPU set to 'on' and also when rendering the file? Have you tried rendering in VP11 with GPU off?

The reason I ask these questions is that it's difficult to get an impression of what changes led to the improved rendering time without more information. In my case I tested HD rendering in VP11 and found that it was faster with GPU off. I posted my results in this thread:
