Im wanting to do a 2 camera mix of some PAL HD footage, about an hour long.
I would like to output the finished footage to both the PAL HD camera in HD and then burn it to a DVD but in NTSC, Whats the best way and software to edit capture with ? I know what to do for the 2 cam edit etc its just the best way of only having to do the whole edit once and then changing the outputted file if possible.
Im using the following:

44000+ X2
3GB memory
600gb SATA raid
600gb IDE raid
Vegas 6
Win XP Pro

Also have both the cinieform and Gearshift software

cheers for any help on making this a simpler job:)

You can use the batch render script to edit once render twice or three times, etc. Do a search on this forum and you will come across several ways to do a batch render.

If you want software that will help with the two camera mix, look up multicam on this board you will find several third party scripts.

For DVD you should need to render two files anywhere, the video file and the audio file are always separate. For DVD you need to render to mpeg-2 for video, the best option for audio is to render to AC-3. If you have DVD Architect, your Vegas has an AC-3 rendering engine.

Hi
Thanks for the info, im not sure i made myself clear maybe.
I have been doing DVD's(using REEL DVD) for several years so i know how to render to MPEG etc. What i was wanting to know was is there a best way to capture the HD footage and then edit it and render it once to HD to dump back to the camera and then render it again without any alterations to burn it to a DVD in NTSC, do i just alter the settings in the render box ?

cheers again

Yes, all you need to do is first print to tape. Then when that is done you do a render for DVD. Are you asking how to capture HD? Have you worked in HD before?

I have captured HD before and also output it direct back to the camera to make clones of tapes thats all. i didnt know if its best to use Cineform or the other to be honest

The Cineform DI will give you a smoother playback than m2t files however they're around 3 time larger files. It'll also give you way less generational loss. However I think you'll have to render back to m2t to print to tape.
I think you'll have to decide which will suit you best based on storage space and the amount of FXs and compositing you'll be doing.

cheers Bob,
Storage space isnt an issue at all, more important i think is frame rate playback in the preview window. I wont be doing any colour correction or FX only simple cuts and fades.

Well m2t sure plays back SLOW so that could be the deciding factor for you.

But if you're going out to DVD in PAL then from my experience rendering to DV25 and editing that gives a pretty good result. You can then swap the DV files for the m2t files to render a HD version. If you're in NSTC land then things are different, it seems that the color sampling difference between mpeg-2 and DV NTSC means you get a noticeably better result encoding from the m2t or CF DIs than DV.

This sounds more like what im after bob, it sure would be easier doing the edit in DV rendering to MPEG 2 for my DVD files and then swapping the DV files for the M2t files but keeping the exact same footage on the timeline and the exact same edit and then rendering to a new M2t file and then dumping it back to the HD camera, how would i go about this?
