Best way to make files sizes smaller

I use Nero 6 and I recently updated it. For some reason, before the update it said my projct was 3.78gig....then I updated and it now says 4.89gig and won't fit. I really don't understand why that is(it is only 80 minutes) and it's a Nero issue anyways. What is the best way, within VV3, to render smaller sizes? Bit rate or quality ? or neither or both?

Also...I read that on standard play you can put 120minutes of video on it...but why would there be an issue with gig size? or visa-versa?

The size is related to the bitrate multiplied by the length. The quality doesn't make any difference at all, except that higher bitrates are better quality and vice versa. If you want the file smaller, use a lower bitrate.

Thanks...ok I read to set it at a constant bitrate...I set it to 8,000,000 if I went to say 6 0r 7, would the quality suffer much?

Just my personal opinion, but once you get up over 5,000,000 you probably won't notice much difference except in very dark, very detailed, or very fast motion parts of the video. If you use Variable bit rate instead then the encoder will use more bits where they are needed instead of wasting them where they're not. You can usually get better quality with a lower average bitrate than when using a constant rate. Maybe you can try something like 8,000,000 for the maximum, 5,000,000 for the average. It should look as good as 8,000,000 contant and file should only be about 2/3 the size.
