best way to reduce media size

i brought in about 10 hours of video

i figure i will have to do rough cut to get rid of garbage then "save as "
using "copy and trim".

any better way?

Prior to "bringing-it-in" you could do an Advanced Capture session and review the footage. Create GOOD Batches to capture. This can often help you to remove the unwanted stuff. Downside to this is that I have sometimes found rubbish I've videoed actually useful as fill-in bits. Seriously! It is amazing what you can achieve with slomo and judicious use of pan/crop.

Vegie toolkit has a feature to recapture based on events, subclips etc. It would preserve all the time code this way.
