Best way to run external monitor

Hi guys,
long time Vegas user here, but shy. :-)
I just need some help with suggestions for playing back to an external monitor.

I've normally been doing this by running firewire out through my camera (HDS FX1-E) to an HD ready LCD screen, but this is very tedious, ties up the camera and doesn't offer great frame rates.

Running Vegas 8 and 8.1 on Vista 64bit. Dual Xeon, 16GB RAM, a nice fast machine. I have one spare x4 Pcie slot.

I toyed around with the idea of getting an AJA Xena LHe, I have one on test at the moment but it looks like 8.1 doesn't recognise it. It's not available in the 8.1 ext monitor pulldown list. In the 32bit version i didn't really notice much performance improvement anyway, certainly not enough to justify splashing out the big bucks for it.

Does anyone know if the Xena will be supported in Vegas 9 64bit? And will I be able to get better frame rates by using it?

Or should I just get a simple PCIe or even PCi-X card with HD output and send that via HDMI to my LCD monitor? If so, which one would you recommend?
