Best workflow for AVI video files (DV and Mjpeg)

Mike M. wrote on 7/27/2014, 6:18 PM
I have two types of AVI files. One is a DV source and the other is MJPEG.
(specs below)

I need to render to either MP4 (AVC) progressive or Mpeg 2. I was thinking of going the DNxHD route and then Handbrake, but seems like an unnecessary step.

The rendered files would be played by on a home streaming device to a flat screen television. Resolution and frame rate could be the same as the source files.

Suggestions ?

Your source files are interlaced. I can think of no better reason to take interlaced Avid 1:!X [corrected] to Handbrake for its decomb magic.

OK, I'll buy that idea.

Using DNxHD codec, would I be using the custom settings for progressive or interlaced. I see that there is no 720i,just 720p.

As you can see, I'm a bit confused on the settings..........and in particular........the configure settings.

Thanks for your reply musicvid

Here's how it works:
--Your source videos are 480i.
-- In order for Handbrake to do the decomb and possible resizing, you don't do it first in Vegas.
-- Therefore your Intermediate is rendered 480i,

Hope that makes some sense.
In case you missed it:

Thanks a bunch for all your help. Between the Vegas forums and others, you are one busy fellow.

Apparently Handbrake is throwing an exception with Avid !:!x files.
Looking into it . . .

UPDATE Avid DV codec works.
