I use WMP6 to preview my DV projects, mostly only because it 'seeks' better. It's still there as mplayer2.exe but you gotta look for it.

Start | Run | mplayer2

Vegas works as a good media player. and I use winamp for my audio stuff. I don't know of any real alternative to WMP though.

I was using CyberLink's PowerDVD for a while to watch MPEG files. It worked really really well until i tried watching a widescreen project i had created with dimensions of 720x244. It played the file at 4:3 anyway (making everyone VERY tall and skinny). Now when i try to use it for anything, it shifts to full screen mode and crashes the computer dead. I just haven't taken the time to uninstall & reinstall it yet. For that matter, i have to go find the original disc with the installation code printed on the sleeve. I never wrote that code down on the backup copy i burned. Oops.
