After a day.....I'm interested to know what the big guys think of the new version?? I'm interested to know if the upgrade is worth it other than just to have the new version and stay in the upgrade path. Does it have it's own set of problems? Opinions seem to be runnig around 50 - 50 from what I have read. I am perfectly happy with what me and my "little company" can do with Vegas 4. Just trying to decide if I need V5.

Thanks.

I think that the big guys like it, but then again most are beta testers so they have some time to familiarize themselves with the new features. Why not download the demo version and see if you like it.

Well, this certainly made my day :)

I'm about 5'7 and slightly built at that (though i'm starting to sport a little pot-belly in my later years), so i am very amused to be referred to as a "big guy".

Well, so far i've spent about 15 minutes with the demo and that's it. There's too much work and house redecorating going on right now. Hopefully i'll get back into the Vegas swing next week though.

As I said elsewhere, I just spent $200 and bought an amazing amount of new video/DVD ability ....

Chien sporting a pot-belly and doing house redecorating -- could it be the symptoms of the marriage bug are starting to show themselves? =8-)

(Next it'll be diapers and college savings plans... I speaketh from experience.)

> I’m interested to know if the upgrade is worth it other than just to have the new version and stay in the upgrade path.

Only you can answer that question, not the “big guys”. What does the new version have that you need? That is the question you should be asking yourself. I plan to upgrade because I do a lot of compositing and 3D work (I also use Cinema 4D for 3D modeling) and I think the 3D Motion and nested parent/child timeline is outstanding. (not to mention how handy the bezier masks are) So I found value in my work and I’m upgrading. You may not do any compositing at all and not see the value in this.

How about the new MainComcept MPEG2 Encoder? That sells for $149 standalone. You can upgrade to Vegas 5 for that price. So that would make it worth it alone.

How about DVD Authoring? I feel you couldn’t buy a DVD authoring tool for $199 to match what DVD Architect 2 does. So upgrading just for DVDA alone is worth it.

There are many reasons to upgrade and some of them justify the upgrade alone for me. However, if your work only involves cuts and fades and back & white titles and you output to VHS tape, then perhaps the upgrade isn’t worth it for you.

So only you can answer the question you posed. As for me, I'm upgrading.

I got a 39 inch waist. Am I a big guy?

I think SPOT is kind of tall, Kelly confirmed he's more small boned and I suspect Satish isn't over 140 pounds soaking wet. ;-)
