I have a 3GHz P4 plenty of RAM - and it sounds like we have the sme sound card - Delta 66 - but I am using the newer 0048 drivers ( I still have the 0027 around because I had heard there might be deficiencies in these newer ones)

Anyway here is what the problem is - I am using 6-tracks with 8 VST effects , no bussing , 24 bit files And even with latency set to 384 I am still having frquent clicks
CPU is barely reaching %7, ram barely touched - - This seems like considerably less stress than the situation you described in another thread here - do you think it might be these newer drivers ?
Maybe you could explain what takes the hit here with all these plugs & everything at 24 bits - I don't see how this could be happening with such a low load on the CPU

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated David

I've tried many of the newer drivers, but I keep coming back to the tried and true .27 drivers. For me, they are just more stable and perform better. Regarding the clicks, is this on playback or on recorded files too? These clicks, are they intermittant? I had a problem with intermittant clicks, many years ago (I've had my Delta 66 for about 4 1/2 years now), I solved it by getting my Delta audio card on it's own IRQ. Delta's are notorious for intermittant clicks and crackles (I call it the snap, crackle pop syndrome), when they are sharing IRQ's with other devices. Once I got my Delta unshared the clicks and pops went away. Is your Delta sharing an IRQ? Have you tried placing the Delta into another PCI slot? Or swapping slots with another card? That could solve th problem as well.

problem on playback only - recording fine

using the setup I described and buffer at 128 it is a veritable shower of clicks - souds like the speaker cone is being ripped -it only goes away full at around 384 or the next higher one - but as soon as I add a VST to the Output bus it goes haywire again
Windows Sound Mapper does a bit better
Just noticed it is sharing an IRQ with my motherboards built in built in NIC
I'll take your advice and switch these right now - should be the first thing I do ..
I have never understood this. XP provides more IRQs and still important stuff gets shared when there are plenty of others available

So I have finally found a slot where the sound card has its own IRQ - had to mov ethings around 4 times.. Virtually no dif among the various configs inc. the one with it by itself with own IRQ. Have tried installing various driver versions starting with the revered 27 - So far nothing has made any noticeable difference

Are you sure I should be able to run the Vegas file I described glitch free - all of these plugs and files running at 24 bit?
