BIN files

I was reading on vcdhelp.com (great reference site) some different ways to burn an MPEG2 file into a "bin" file so that it could be played by an SVCD player. What is a "bin" file?

What's more, I was having no problem playing my MPEG2 files directly from my CDs without converting them to a "bin file". Is there any reason I should do so if it works without doing it?

No need to convert to a bin file. Its just another method, requires different software, so a method rather pointless in my opinion.

If or not a SVCD file plays on a set top DVD player for example is more determined by the particular make, model of DVD player, somtimes CD-RW discs play better than CD-R and there can even be problems with some players not reading certain brands of media. That all said, the most important part is being sure you render to a MPEG-2 compliant file that meets the needed specs for SVCD. In VF you need the optional MC codec. Or as an option render out as AVI then render again as a MPEG-2 with TEMPGnc or something else.
