Bin problem in 4.0c

Adding events to bins...

I created a veg with several parts and created bins to hold media, which are basically still pics.

Saved and closed the veg file and reopened later. The bins were empty, including the one for all media.

I tried to add events to one bin and all the media in the folder from which these few pics were stored were added to the bin.

When I click on other bins, the display is the same...all medi in the original folder containing the media are displayed in all bins. WTH!!?

Hey buddy!

The exact same thing happened to us today. I thought it was just a quirk with our machine but obviously it isn't. Stay Tuned

I have been experiencing similar problems on my computer. Whenever I try to import multiple stills into Vegas, it either crashes, becomes non-responsive or takes forever to import a couple of stills. I've tried it with JPEG's, TIFFs, TGA, PNG's...

I think I narrowed down the problem a bit. It seems that having all these file formats associated with photoshop is causing Vegas to crap out. If they are associated with MS file viewer, the performance is much better. Even loading them in MS explorer is a lot faster.

I haven't removed Photoshop from my system yet, when I do, I will make sure that it is NOT associated with any file types.

Hope this helps...

This one might have slipped by a few days ago but it merits another look. We've now experienced this on 3 different machines. The project we're working on includes 152 photos saved as pngs, 655x480 @150 dpi. The bin fills up to photo number 126 and then stops as if all photos should be there. They're not. From that point on, all existing bins contain all the files from the project as if it were the all media bin.

We used the explorer window instead and got better but not perfect results. The photos took forever to populate the window and actually stopped at one point with only a fragment of a file name showing and for a while, the system hung and XP said Vegas was not responding. I was about to reboot but the phone rang and after a minute or two Vegas "righted" itself and all files were showing in the explorer window.

The bin was set to show files in a list rather than icons which is generally faster.

Got the project done, but it was a bit clumsy. Any thoughts?

Purely guesswork - stuff I'd try out if/when etc...

Prob. with bins not filling, &/or stopping too soon perhaps is related to memory/storage issues - would try setting to details rather then thumbs. Perhaps the prob with media added automatically is related to some sort of searching function, & could possibly be something more common with more complicated veg files.

I'd check the pagefile location and settings in winXP, in case this was filling up. I'd check any of the image viewing dlls were overwritten in the windows/system32 folder, probably just by sorting the view in windows explorer and seeing if there was a bunch of similarly name files with older, pre winxp dates. I'd check to make sure any specialized winxp folder view wasn't in effect for the image folders - just plain jane details. And I'd try disabling any file associations for that type of file by simply renaming the associated prog.s folder.

I tried to duplicate something so I could be more specific, but: Trying to set a pattern of a bin stopping prematurely on *filling up*, I tried importing all the jpgs from a number of folders into a media bin, reaching 258 (all I had) without a hiccup, despite having a couple of internet explorer windows open etc... Set to thumbnails instead of list, VV4c appeared to build the previews dynamically, so there wouldn't appear to be an issue with index files as with other apps including windows. Using file finder couldn't find anything other then the veg file and it's backup, plus a couple of Small tmp files. Everything was there when re-opened/closed etc.

As for Vegas finding other media, adding it automatically, couldn't duplicate it now with VV4c. I have come across one or two situations, I think, where other files were added, but this was when I saved/exported a still from a video if I recall - don't recall versions - and in any case couldn't duplicate it now.
