Bins work like well.....bins. You can create bins for various reels, audio, video, stills, titles, whatever you'd like. You can then copy/paste bins from one iteration of Vegas to another, which is really nice. You can create bins during capture, and have those bins show up in Vegas for editing. So, create a bin for each tape when you capture.
Then in Vegas, create a bin for all A roll, a bin for all B roll, a bin for all audio stingers, a bin for all jpgs, a bin for all tgas, a bin for all titles. Copy from bin to bin, and unlike some applications, copying a bin does not copy media, it only copies the media location.
Open a new project, drag a bin from another project, and you've instantly got a head start on media management.

Ahh...there's a media management issue. If you were able to set media locations on a project by project basis then dragging bins might well force the media to be moved as well. Vegas is nice and loose about this sort of management.
