Black and white issue

I've had this happen a couple of times now . . . I'm working with a large 1.5 hour file and I apply the "Sony Black and White" FX to one of the clips within the project, then the entire file becomes black and white. All the other edited clips are black and white, but the little event FX icons in the clips aren't green (or turned on). I can re-import the entire file somewhere else in the timeline and it's still black and white. It's like there's something in the project file that's making the entire file black and white.

The only thing that solves this is going through the entire project and creating sub-clips for each clip. But that's time consuming and frustrating. Anyone had this happen or have a solution?

Where are you adding the effect? If you add it to the clip in the project media pool then it adds it to the entire file, no matter what piece of that clip you use in the project.

If you're adding the effect to individual events on the timeline then you shouldn't be seeing this and it would be a bug.

I can't repro your issue.

Maybe others should try to repro. Interesting.

Hm, curious.
If somehow the FX was applied to the media rather than the event would that explain this?

Just to expand on this, if you apply an FX to the media in the Project Media I don't think you see the fx icon turn green in the events.

Just to expand on this, if you apply an FX to the media in the Project Media I don't think you see the fx icon turn green in the events. No, no you don't - and I think one should. Applying to the Media in Project Media makes it Global to THAT Project. And no, you aren't aware of it having an Fx. BUT if you got to the Project Media and THAT Media the Green Fx Icon is alight.

Bottom Line? I think if you ADD an Fx to Media within the Project Media pane, and you place that Media on the Timeline one SHOULD get an indication that it has had something added - like the glowing Green Fx Icon.

It's not as Black n White as we think it should be!

Good thoughts there and agree, it's pretty easy to get trapped by the lack of visual idication that something is affecting the media.
Just not too certain about using the existing icon unless it was something like having four 'states' e.g. dim = no FX anywhere, blue = event FX, red = media FX, purple = media + event FX.
