Black and White with Color Items in Video

killbuzz_Pickle05 wrote on 3/4/2005, 12:12 PM
OKay i seen this on movies and some videos and i would like to try it with this program.
This is what I’m meaning
Example:
I have a video of a red coffee cup on top of a blue coffee table with some back ground items blurred… I want this to be all grey but have the coffee cup color but the table and the rest black and white.

What do i need to do?

Thanks

Its called colorpass.
If you search the forums you will come up with some great links and tutorials. I am just to lazy today to do that for you

This is called "Color Pass" or the "pleasantville" effect. You can find a step by step tutorial for this at:

The technique is also explained in my newsletter. In fact, the latest issue also explains how to let multiple colors pass through.

Hey! that's a nice one, Edward. The balloons are a great tool to use for this too.

Ahh...That's a different technique, and I don't have the tutorial up any longer. JetDV does on his site, I think. There are prebuilt veg files for this on the VASST site, but I'm sure I saw the older/Vegas 4 technique on JetDV's site.
It's basically the same thing, except you have to have a copy of the event that sits below the other event, and you'll use the masking function in the SEcondary Corrector to reveal the color found on the event beneath.
If you want to download the Movie Studio tutorial files, they'll open in Vegas 4, and have the Color Pass training files in there.

Take a look at this project file to see which step you're missing by comparing to this one. It also includes the balloon image.
