I've only just noticed that all of my DV, be it captured (via i-Link) or generated in VV, have vertical black bars on each side of my video! Now I presume this is something to do with aspect ratio (PAL here), but no amount of playing around with numbers removed it. To test this, I created a BMP file (720x576) with a simple, filled circle in the middle. In VV, I added this image to the timeline for 5 secs and rendered it as MPEG2. The circle in the resulting MPEG2 file was noticeably squashed, if only slightly noticeable.
I captured from my source DV using VV's capture tool. The black bars (about 1cm thick) appear on the resulting, captured video. What gives? All of my footage now appears slightly squashed (thinner heads etc). As it's coming from a PAL DV source, I can't understand where the strips are coming from.
I'm trying to convert my massive archive of home videos (8mm, Hi8 and DV) to DVD. Am I missing something with the aspect ration? I'm using the PAL Standard template.
I looked back in the archives, and there's much talk about the default aspect ratio values being wrong, but I couldn't find anything directly related to my issue.
TIA.
