Black buttons in DVDA 5.0b

Here's an odd one! Just completed a new project which includes 2 hours of video rendered as PAL DV Widescreen from HDV files on the Vegas Pro 9.0c timeline.

I have just two chapters in DVDA and, as I often do, I use buttons with frames chosen from the video, ie within the "Media" tab, I slide the slider along till I get the frame I want.

This has worked perfectly for years, right up to last weekon other projects. BUT, today, when I preview the menu, the video frames within the button are black. They stay black when I exit the preview, but the pictures return if I slide along to new frames. The black buttons actually remain in the DVD when burned to disk.

NOW, if I open last week's project which was far smaller and had lots of buttons, each with its video frame, they all preview perfectly - no black buttons.

I got the latest graphic card drivers and all else is up to date. Any thoughts, anyone? Is this another DVDA memory handling issue?

Just a guess but I'd suspect your source video.

Over the years I've noticed DVDA can behave a little flaky on some mpg2, not wanting to show all frames on the time-line until zoomed in etc. Far as I know DVDA looks at the mpg2 dynamically & shows the thumbnail in your button, only turning it into a part of the menu mpg2 when the menu's rendered as you prepare the DVD. When that time comes, & the thumbnail's black, that's what it'll use.

Could re-encode the video, but it seems simpler to just do some screenshots in Vegas using those instead of the dynamic preview.

I've discovered that the black buttons issue only happens with projects rendered to PAL DVD WIDE avi files.

When rendered to DVDA compatible separate streams the button pictures work correctly.

don't know why...
