Black Frame Problem

I have skimmed the posts concerning this issue in the past as I did not have the problem. Now I do. I don't know if this was mentioned in previous posts or not, but the only change I have made is I started using Vegas' capture utility instead of HDV Split.

I have also noticed that I get 2 frames or so on the left hand side event from the immediate right event with 2 black frames in the middle (2 frames worth of space on the timeline). I allowed Vegas to scene detect.

The next capture I do I will use HDVSplit again and see if there is a difference.

The thread http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=532915black frames hardware dependent[/link] contained a lot of useful explorations. I think the problem is related to m2t clips and not to DIs. I'm using V7 for capture (HDLink is generating pixelation) and have not had black frame problem. I convert to DI with HDLink before putting into Vegas.

Yes, it seems only an issue with m2t. My current workaround when I get one of these (I get 1 or 2 on most every tape) is to render that section to Cineform format on a new track. That restores the frames. It seems they are never really lost, it is just Vegas can't see them properly in the m2t for some reason.
