Black frames with nested project with mpeg file & velocity envelope:

Please, can you download this file (VP9) and make a render of “Master Project.veg” (no matter the codec).
Personnaly, I get many black frames:

OK,
you're nested project contains a velocity envelope. From my past experience with V8 these did not work too well when nested however the final render came out OK.

This is NOT happening with V9, the black frames are in the rendered output as well as in the preview. At first I thought your problem could be because the nested project in PAL Standard Widescreen and it doesn't match the master. I changed both the parent and child projects to PAL DV Widescreen and got exactly the same result.

You should submit this as a bug.

Best workaround I can offer is to render the child project to an intermediate codec. Seeing as Cineform is a work in progress you could try the Sony YUV codec 8 bit to save some disk space. You could also try the MXF 50Mbps 4:2:2 codec if disk space is a problem. From my quick look at it it holds up pretty well.

Thank you for your tests Bob.

I have already sent a bug report to SCS, but at this time I only got from them a standard answer (disable start up and background applications).
I considered my mpeg file was corrupt, but I get same result with all files from this camcorder.
Let's see what technical support will say.

Well I fixed it for you :)

I rendered out your mpeg-2 file to a vanilla PAL Widescreen AVI, replace the mpeg file in the child, opened the master and hey presto, no more black frames.

I sort of have a mental picture of how Vegas is getting itself in a muddle between the velocity envelopes, the decoding of the mpeg-2 and the parent requesting frames from the child but I'd fail at trying to put it into words.

The good news is you should be easily able to work around this problem plus give SCS something to get their teeth into.

The strange thing is that I have no problem with mpeg files from another DVD camcorder.
So the problem seems to be related to mpeg files/camcorder .
