Black preview screen, followed by Freeze and Crash.

Keys wrote on 7/1/2024, 6:28 AM

My Vegas 21.0 pro crashes, when I try to play/edit this clip. Happened to me once before, with a different clip. Can someone please check if this is a local bug, or if it's reproducible?

Version 21.0 (Build 315)

Reproduce:
- Import attached clip, set project settings to match media
- Play clip from timeline

Symptoms:
- Preview window turns black
- Frame indicator shows dots (i.e. "11..........")
- Entire application freezes
- Application exits with error

It looks like a dodgy clip but we need the original clip to try as it's reprocessed for the forum. Please upload to a cloud service and provide the link so others can download and try.

Happy to test it if you can make it available via Google Drive, etc.

Ah, yes of course. Here is the link:

This file is straight from my video camera. I see there is a hiccup, but should that crash Vegas?

Imports and see it on the time line and then crash when played VP 300

Ok. So it's not a local issue. Thanks. Maybe I should get a different camera? I did a crash report, so I think the Vegas team will be informed..

IMHO
Make a couple of short videos with this camcorder, without errors and failures. Lay them out as well. If they also cause a malfunction, the question is for the video camera.

Yes it crashes compoundplug.dll in both V20 and V21. Something for Magix to look at I think. Medainfo says it is interlaced BluRay format with AC3 audio. If you are taking video for future archive (family video ect) maybe see if your camera can output a more modern format (mp4 progressive - most compatible or HEVC (harder to edit)) or get a new camera.

@Keys Yep crashes here but there's a 'glitch' seen on screen when played with MPC player near the beginning & that is the same point where it crashes Vegas. To me that is just a dodgy / broken file. It plays in Magix Movie Studio where the same glitch can be seen.
