Black & White with one just one colour?

organism_seven wrote on 11/16/2003, 6:06 PM
Hi,

You may have seen some films or adverts that show black and white footage, but one item will be in colour.
A red dress, or one individual will be in full colour but everything else remains in monochrome.
How is this done?
Can it be done with Vegas?
Or is special software required?

Any info appreciated.
Regards
Organism Seven.

There is an article by Edward Troxel that should help you at:

If you do a search here you will find a lot about it. I think someone just asked about this a few days ago as well. seems to come up every week or so.

There have been three separate threads on this in the past two months. Read Troxel's article first, then do a search on "secondary color" (American spelling).

Here are some links you'll find (not exhaustive):

removing color from all but a particular item

and

How to do this compositing effect...

and

Color object over Black and White

also,

black and white and 1 selected colour

There is also this thread:

Yes, I'm the guy who posted about this a few days ago. Thanks everyone for the help. I've been playing with this a bit- still not there though. Can this be done any easier with after effects?

Sorry, looks like my past thread on this has been removed. If I can't make this work with vegas, was it combustion that will do this quickly?
Thanks!
