Blackmagic card doesn't work in VegasPro

James Moore wrote on 2/7/2018, 4:03 PM

I have a Blackmagic Decklink Mini Monitor and it works fine with After Effects and Resolve but when I select "Blackmagic Design DeckLink" in the Video Preview Device window it says "Device unavailable".

Any suggestions on how to get Vegas to use the DeckLink as a Video Preview playback device?

What version and build of Vegas are you using?

I just installed the latest Blackmagic desktop video software. It still doesn't display through the Black Magic card. The driver note in vegas says

"Device unavailable. This device supports audio playback"

Well, for me works the Decklink 4K Extreme 6G and 12G in Vegas Pro 14 and Vegas Pro 15 fine.

Which Version of Vegas do you use?

Edit: oh I saw it in the other thread, VP15 with the latest build.

It has never worked for me. I am currently on the latest VP 15 build. I've got the Black Magic mini monitor - the SDI/HDMI version, not the 4k

marc-s wrote on 2/8/2018, 11:20 AM

James, I have the mini monitor 4K and the same problem. I used to have an intensity card that worked but I don't think Vegas is supporting these cards anymore which is a shame.

James Moore wrote on 2/8/2018, 1:02 PM

ouch. I was considering a 4k. I don't think I could get the audio going with in vegas with the intensity pro. That was awhile ago though.

I use Vegas 13 all the time and I don't use Vegas 14 too much but my old Intensity Pro seems to work fine with Vegas 14 picture-wise

Window graphic card GPU is not good enough for preview.I m using gtx1080 card. Its only good for rendering.

Gpu is not work for preview in Vegas.

I would love to know what's a good option now as well. As I say my old Intensity Pro seems to work with VP 14 but it still suffers from intermittent lock-ups where the picture on my flat-screen LG tv will freeze (HDMI output of the Intensity Pro). It's always done this from day one. It will usually clear after a few clicks but I've never been able to figure out what causes it. It does seems to work fine with no freezes with my old Adobe Premier CS6.

I would have bought one of these cards long ago as they are getting really affordable, but apart from the problems with them that show up in this forum und elsewhere, even from those who get them working you can read that they don't support 1080 50p with Vegas. Is that really true or am I missing something?

It would be sad if Magix could not come up with a professional solution for monitoring the video output.

jetdv wrote on 3/15/2018, 10:27 AM

I have one of these cards and the DV capture program in Vegas will see and capture from the card with the card set to down-convert to SD. Unfortunately, the captured video ended up being 88 Gig when I was expecting more like 14 Gig. The capture file was not a DV file.

The HD capture app in Vegas will not see the card at all.

This is all with the current driver versions from BlackMagic. I did find an app that works great at capturing from the card - unfortunately it's really expensive (if you can find the price and a way to order it) - www.magicsoft.tv/recorder.html

No problems using BM IntensityPro 4k.  Straight from VP13/14 into TV via hdmi for pre view.   Can also capture from GH2 (1280x720p) directly into Edius but not tried same operation with Vegas.  BM has been trouble free from day 1

I also have the same problem. What should I do?

diverG wrote on 3/19/2018, 6:27 AM

Maybe try updating the BM drivers.  Avoid 10.9.0   After updating you may be asked to reboot and the firmware on the card will update.

diverG wrote on 3/20/2018, 11:27 AM

Preview in 1080 50p if fine.   Sorry for the confusion. 1280x720 50p referred to capturing straight from the camera.  Pretty sure it would capture 1920x1080 50p but I don't have a camera to test from.

Just tested VP12 with BM in 1920x1080 50p.  No problems

do I understand that right that Vegas actually processes the preview to a separate card, and uses the internal card like, say, my Radeon 290, for its main operations? Does that significantly speed up playback speed?
I tried using 2 cards, made Vegas pretty unstable.

2nd screen is a TV with 2 x hmdi inputs.  Input 1 taken from onboard graphics card. This ensures quicksyc is always available. Input 2 is taken from the BM card.   Set up via option prefs preview display.  Main screen is via old GeForce 550ti card

When editing tv input 2 is selected.   For normal pc work input 1 is select via TV handset.

Edit:   Tend to use Vegas to produce file with Fx_TEditimecode  embedded so that corrections can be easily located.    Nothing complicated and rock stable.

Hi, is 1080 50p also possible?

Which version of Vegas you are using? And which driver of your Nividia is? Is there any special version for CUDA?

thanks.

VP12 & 13.  GTX550ti  driver 376.33.  Newer drivers give assorted problems with FX.  MB Asus Z68  i7 2600K clocked to 3.8G.  If you have a 'modern MB'  maybe try a different slot.

Earlier post referred to VP13/14.  Should have read VP12/13.  Just spotted the error.
