BlackMagic HyperDeck and Vegas Pro?

mrerick wrote on 1/24/2012, 5:15 PM
Is anyone successfully using the BlackMagic HyperDeck with Sony Vegas in UnCompressed and/or AVID DNxHD Codec modes?

Is Vegas compatible with the Avid Codecs published here:

Any special considerations, or workflow problems?

Thanks, Marc

Specifically no but I and many others have used Avid's DNxHD codec with no issues with Vegas.

One thing to take on board is the media for the HyperDeck is extremely expensive.
For studio shoots perhaps not so much an issue.

I think the HyperDeck generates DNxHD in a MXF wrapper. If Avid Codecs are installed on your system Vegas Pro can read DNxHD in Quicktime wrapper (.mov) but not in MXF wrapper.

"I think the HyperDeck generates DNxHD in a MXF wrapper."

No thinking involved, you're right :(

Which is kind of a pain, kind of tempted by the Shuttle now that it will write DNxHD and not eat up SSDs at dollars per minute. So is there anyway to get Vegas to read these files, should only take a rewrap.

I'm so confused with it all. I tried something that worked for me. I dropped the uncompressed files into the Trimmer window, then added it to the timeline. Problem is I can't save and call up the files again. I just use this technique to key 10bit 422 footage. I know this might not help, but I've been searching for a solution for this very problem.

Bob,

Here's my cut at a rewrap workflow:

http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/tapeless-video-recording-solutions/504548-hypderdeck-shuttle-2-supports-dnxhd.html#post1710713

I've checked the workflow and the rewrap to MOV works almost instantaneously. I'm also considering buying the Hyperdeck Shuttle, now that it does DNxHD. I already have a C300 SSD, so I'm in the $300+ price range, without the mount and a small LCD monitor.
