ok, how do you do the same thing but with a jpg image instead of text?

put the text directly over the jpg image
click properties tabe
got to background color
make sure the slider is all the way down
the test will now show through

yes but when inserting a jpg image it takes up the whole screen, I see how you crop the image but how do you make it smaller?

Event Pan/Crop can also make an image smaller. Just make the adjusting square "bigger" and the picture will become smaller. Also, Track Motion can be used to adjust the size of the picture.

i use track motion and put a border around it
