Blu Ray ?

Hey guys,

It took four days for me to render my HDV 2-hour wedding video to Blu ray disk. The problem is it's not playing with I play it on a Blu ray player so I opened it up on my computer and found out that what I created was a data Blu ray disk file which was not my goal in the first place. What I did was since DVD Architect 5 is not out yet I rendered it right from the Vegas edit time line to burn into a Blu ray disk. How do I create a Blu ray burn that will automatically play as a plug and play Blu ray file?

Do I have to wait for DVD Architect 5?. I hope not.

Thanks.

How did you create the Blu-Ray? Did you render and burn from the timeline in Vegas? Probably not since you got a data Blu-Ray.

If you want to create a video Blu-Ray you have to burn from the Vegas timeline. You can also wait for another week for DVDA 5.

Hi there,

Yes, I did burn from the vegas timeline. I think the problem is that during the editing process I used the HDV 108060i render template instead of the Blu ray 1440 by 1080i. I'm just thinking what it could be.

Then I used the Blu ray software that came with LG Blu ray burner and played it which it did but there is no audio to the video so now I'm more confused. I tried all the HDV and Blu ray templates and all of those renders to no audio. Why is that?

Thanks.

Im not holding my breath!

Let's try to keep this discussion on one discussion group.

You say that you burn HDV (MPEG-2) to Blu-Ray from the Vegas timeline, as far as I know that is not possible. Vegas will only burn AVC Blu-Ray from the timeline. How are you doing this? Step by step please.

If you do "Render as..." chose the MPEG-2 template and then chose the Blu-Ray disk as a target, you will not get a Blu-Ray movie disk, that is not how Blu-Ray disks are created.

Hmmm, when Sony has announced something they usually don't miss the release date, we all know about the 64 bit version of Vegas but it was never announced. Do you know something about DVDA 5 that nobody else does?

Terji,

How do you create a Blu ray disk. It does not matter if it's authored or just plug-n-play. I just need your step by step so I can compare it with how I'm doing it.

Thanks.

I use Ulead DVD Movie Factory with the HD pack. Not because Vegas doesn't work but because I like menus on my disks.

Prior to that I used render from the Vegas timeline, using AVC/AAC encoding.

At risk of hijacking the thread, I must've missed the announcement about DVDA5. Will it still be a free upgrade for those with VP8/DVDA4.5? Or was that just optimistic speculation?

Yes, it will be free.

"You say that you burn HDV (MPEG-2) to Blu-Ray from the Vegas timeline, as far as I know that is not possible. Vegas will only burn AVC Blu-Ray from the timeline"

No, that is possible - you can burn mpeg2-HD from the timeline in Vegas 8b to a BDMV structure. Have a look to the possible settings - you can use both mpeg2 and AVC, and can choose between different Blu Ray templates (from the mainconcept mpeg2 encoder), but also from the Sony AVC-Encoder (here the AVCHD templates).

debuman will not be happy with the DVDA5 too, since he will need another player - his BDP S301 is not able to playback self-burned BD-R or BD-RE, according to the specifications:

Yea your right about that. My Sony BDP-S301 is not compatible with BD-R(E) but will it still play on my PC connected Blu ray player/writer LG GGW-H20L?.

If you have a player software that can handle Blu Ray, yes, it will play from your Blu Ray writter. For example Power DVD Ultra or Nero Showview (after 7.9x, with the Blu Ray plugin).

Wolfgang S,

What about Mac compatibility playing BD-R(E) or any kinds of Blu ray disk?.
Terje wrote on 6/13/2008, 5:24 PM
PC's, Macs all of them can play Blu-Rays, if you have the right hardware. For example, your monitor must be HDCP compatible if you want to play it at 1080p.

As I have now suggested quite a few times, head out to a shop and try your Blu-Ray disk there. You should also upgrade the firmware of your Sony Blu-Ray player so that it will read your BD-RE disks.

I have no experience with Macs. But now, since you know that your player is the issue, make an update to the latest firmware, relax and enjoy that solution.

Be aware that updating the firmware is a little bit risky - power should not fail during the update, and typically you have a loss in gurantee. If something does not work - it is up to you. But there is no other solution, since you want to play BD-R and BD-RE.

I just updated the firmware on my Sony BDP 300 with a CD-R, it proceeded flawlessly in about 20 minutes.
