Blu ray prep issues.

Hi all,

I've been using Vegas and DVDA for over 10 years and I've been pretty happy with it.
I've made countless DVDs and have now expanded into Bluray production but she's giving me some grief.

I've never had trouble making DVDs but Blu ray prep from the same HD footage in DVDA seems...finicky.
If I have a final render that easily fits on a standard BR AND use the Vegas default presets (1920x1080; 60i; 25Mbps) for full HD rendering WITHOUT tweaking, the video is fine.
However I had a longish vid I neede to fit on a single BR and tweaked the bitrates of the above mentioned default setting. Came in at 78% of disk space but DVDA said it wanted to recompress as the "media is not compliant with the disc format" even though it was the SAME Mainconcept setting with only some bitrate tweaks to fit to disk.
It also said "video format doesn't match project" as well as "Asset contains composited graphics"

Default setting gives no recompress message but the exact same footage with same default settings BUT with bitrate tweaks gives those messages....

So, what's going on?

go to OPTIMIZE disk and see what it is actually wanting to recompress. It could be audio, menu or the video.

What render template did you start off with and what parameter(s) did you change and to what value(s)?

I just made a test using the MainConcept AVC/AAC Blu-ray 1920x1080-50i 25 Mbps video stream template and set the Average bps to 14,000,000. The resultant video file was accepted by DVDA 6 without issue.

You could also try using the Sony AVC/MVC encoder and choose an AVCHD or Blu-ray template as a starting point.

Your error message about included "composited graphics" is strange.

Hey all,

****EDIT****
Well, I feel quite the dope.
Looks like MAX bitrate shouldn't exceed 40000 kbps...d'oh!
I'm thinking that's the source of my problem.
****END EDIT****

Thanks for the feedback
.DonaldT? It indicates the video needs to be recompressed. Checked as you directed and it says "Media is not compliant with the disc format"

Peterduke? I used the Mainconcept Blu-ray MPEG-2 preset (1920x1080; 60i; 25mbps) then modified the bitrates using results from bitrate calculator at http://dvd-hq.info/
Results were MAX: 46400 AVG: 21500 MIN: 8600 (all kbps)
That's all I changed from the above preset.
I'm now wondering if it's the MAX. Should it stay below 45000kbps? Maybe that's the reason for the "not compliant" error and the call for recompression?

Curious why you were making the bitrate higher when you were trying to make it fit on a disk?

PeterDuke,

Turns out I was using max bitrates that were too high.
40 mbps is the max and I was set beyond that.
All good now.
Thanks for the help!

DonaldT

I was using the preset they had for BR in the bitrate calculator at dvd-hq.info.
The max listed in the preset was 48 mbps

*sigh

Wish I'd caught it earlier.
Could have saved myself some time.
