Blu ray template in VMSHDP 10.0

I edit my project in VMSHDP 10.0 then render it, so I can add menus using DVDAS 5.0 and burn to Blu Ray disc.
When I render the project I choose Type "Sony AVC...." and Template "Blu ray ...."
For my video 1440 x 1080 - 50i, there is a choice between 2 values of Mbps video stream.
8 Mbps or 15 Mbps.
What is the significance or importance of this choice?
Thanks for advice.

Bitrate directly controls the file size and quality. Higher bitrate=higher quality and larger files.

and burn to Blu Ray disc.

If you are burning to a Blu-ray disk why not use the Make Movie button? That will lead you step by step through the process and will likely default to the MainConcept MPEG-2 codec with a much higher bitrate and video quality as Steve Mann says.

Thanks for suggestion. However, I want to add menus to my project and as far as I know I can't do that with VMSHDP 10.
Therefore, I render my project for transfer across to DVA.
I presume that by rendering at a high value of Mbps I can maximise final quality.

The Make Movie button gives you the option of transferring to DVDAS for authoring.
