Blue screen on creating DVD

mike-beazley wrote on 2/2/2010, 3:33 AM
I have recently installed DVD Architect on a new computer using XP 64 bit professional OS, but on going through the motions to create a DVD, I had a blue screen and shut down when I clicked on 'Make DVD', clicking on 'Preview' was fine. I'd be greatful for any suggestions.
I re-installed the program on my old computer (XP 32bit) and it works fine.
Even though the program loads into ' Progam Files(86) ' on my new computer, could there be a conflict with the 64 bit element?

It could be that the program is challenged by the 64-bit DVD burner driver -- but, in my experience, DVD Architect rarely has these kinds of issues. And, even if it did, you should be able to select the Prepare option and burn your DVD files to a folder on your hard drive instead. (You could then use your DVD burner software to move the VIDEO_TS folder to a DVD and you'd have a playable disc.)

Go to Windows Update and click Custom to ensure you have all of the non-critical updates (especially for hardware). And ensure you have the latest version of Quicktime.

Thanks for that Steve, I'll see how I get on.

Itinerant.
This a known problem in Vegas and DA5 and it is acknowledged by Sony Support as a bug. Many other threads here complain of same.
As Steve indicates, the known cause is a conflict between Vegas and DA5 with some DVD players and burners and sometimes other devices.

To remove the conflict, one has to disable the offending hardware, usually a Blueray player or burner. Then, "Make DVD" will not hang or crash and you can "Prepare" - do not "Burn" - an image file which you can later burn as a DVD with another program (Nero, Roxio, PE8, ImgBurn, etc.)

Does your system have an internal Blueray player or burner or are you using an external Blueray burner ?

This is bad news. So if you bought a blue ray universal CD/DVD burner you can not burn a DVD with Architect? There has to be a solution to this If anyone knows please give the info.

Thank you

I just got the blue screen and all I was doing was editing a nested menu. It was not the first time and I was blaming my virus checker but I changed that a few weeks ago.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit version on an i7-920. I do have both an internal blu ray writer and a DVD writer.

Anyone found a solution? The knowledgebase doesn't even have an entry for blue screen under DVD Architect.

Usually the bluescreen will give you some error codes. Write those down and do a search on the web. Sometimes this gives you enough information to know if it is hardware or software.
