Please turn off your CAPLOCK.

How are you generating your external preview? Via firewire? or through your video card.
jetdv wrote on 12/22/2003, 12:58 PM
Perhaps you changed the "level" slider on the track header to less than 100%? Perhaps you HAVE added an effect somewhere (clip, track, project, media pool)/ Perhaps...

For the benefit of the rest of us, please indicate how you solved the problem. Thanks.

He turned off his CAPS-LOCK key.

That is a little known feature of vegas external preview that it notices if you are typing for long periods of time with the caps-lock on and annoying the heck out of everyone who then has to try and read the stuff.

CAPS-LOCK HATERS OF THE WORLD UNITE!!!!!

oops.... sorry about the caps-lock thing... I think I unlocked it before my preview monitor stopped working... PHEW!
Stunner wrote on 12/24/2003, 10:52 AM
TO Y'ALL CAPS LOCK HATERS, I GUESS YOU AIN'T GOTTA READ DIS. BUT I SIMPLY SOLVED THE PROBLEM BY UNINSTALLING VEGAS AND RE-INSTALLING IT AND IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL.

LOL
Stunner wrote on 12/24/2003, 2:32 PM
WHATEVER Y'ALL. GROW UP? SEE I DON'T WANNA DO THIS BUT I JUST WANNA PROVE THE POINT THAT I THINK Y'ALL SHOULD STOP MAKING SUCH A BIG DEAL ABOUT CAPS LOCK. THIS FORUM AIN'T ABOUT THAT, YOU COME HERE TO HELP OTHERS, NOT TO DO ANY ENGLISH GRAMMER UP IN THIS PLACE. JUST READ AND HELP, U CAN'T HELP SHUT UP, CUZ OTHERS WILL.
JJKizak wrote on 12/24/2003, 2:39 PM
The "cap lock" syndrome started way back in the old teletype days which made it a lot easier to mechanically type and receive messages. Somehow the "internet people" transformed this into "Shouting". I use cap lock all the time to my friends as they understand that I am not shouting.

Liam_Vegas wrote on 12/24/2003, 3:36 PM
Nope... you got it wrong (in this case).. obviously CAPS LOCK can be used to indicate you are SHOUTING... it can also be used to indicate EMPHASIS but in the case of STUNNER here it actually makes it HARDER to read his posts. Harder to read his posts means that FEWER people actually will be bothered to answer his (or her) requests.

If you are interested... THAT is why I, and I am sure OTHERS, are trying to push this POINT home. It has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the use of appropriate GRAMMER or SPELLING or anything like that. This is about having a little bit of thought and good sense about what you are asking for and making it EASIER for people to help you. Is this such a hard thing to understand?

now... DO THE RIGHT THING will ya?
JJKizak wrote on 12/24/2003, 4:34 PM
You don't have to yell. I heard ya.

Liam_Vegas wrote on 12/24/2003, 6:21 PM
Cute...

EMPHASIS.... rather than YELLING! and that message was a clarification email correcting yours and Stunners misunderstanding that my use of CAPS LOCK was yelling rather than just being appropriate use for EMPHASIS only.

In fact... to clarify further... I never actually believed that Stunner was YELLING... (until he started to refer to us all as CAPS HATERS)... I merely wanted to see if he could adjust his use of ALL CAPS... but I do realize that is probably just a wishful thinking on my part.

Anyway... please do HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS / HOLIDAY PERIOD.. or whatever (no YELLING implied).

* the use of the first YELLING in CAPS above is probably just a little YELL (especially as there is an exclamation point right after it... but I promise.... it is only a itsy bitsy yell... not a big huge one).
Stunner wrote on 12/24/2003, 7:17 PM
LIAM, SHUT THE FUCK UP, WHY ARE YOU CRYING MAAN. NO ONE COMPLAINS ABOUT CAPS BUT YOU, DOESN'T IT TELL YOU ANYTHING MEANING NO ONE CARES ABOUT CAPS OR NOT, DAMN, YOU SAYING WE SHOULD GROW UP, WHAT 'BOUT YOU?
Liam_Vegas wrote on 12/24/2003, 8:29 PM
Even cooler. This is just so special. But please do just sit down.. take a deep breath... and bring yourself under some control will you? Just try to get SOME persective to the issue at hand.. it isn't REALLY all that important to you is it?

Well... now let me apologize to everyone else in this forum who has had to read this persons rantings. I don't believe that anyone can honestly say that any of my posts were personally abusive or attacking Stunner.. but rather just presented a request to stop doing something so that his posts would actually be easier to read.

Stunner, If you check your facts though you will see that I am NOT the only person who has asked you to refrain from using the CAPS LOCK key. But... do stay in denial if that is what you need to continue feeling good about yourself.

Above all be Happy.

Be excellent to one another dude!

Jessariah67 wrote on 12/25/2003, 8:28 AM
back to the original question, am i to assume that you get better results when previewing from yur card, rather than via firwire? i've also noticed that i get some heavy-duty lag (maybe it's because i'm using my camera as teh converter as well?

this message was intentionally capless...
Liam_Vegas wrote on 12/25/2003, 10:10 AM
actuallly... no... you should not notice any significant <difference> between the internal preview and the external preview <frame rate>. The preview frame rate will reduce whenever you are doing something with the footage (like applying FX / transitions). But for straight.. unmodified standard DV footage... that is being displayed in a project with the exact same project setings that are matching the source footage... then you should just about get full frame rate preview. This may depend somewhat on your CPU speed.

Check the frame rate count that is displayed in the preview window (on the lower right side of the internal preview screen).

Regardless of how the actual preview display appears.. what is that frame rate when you look at your video using the internal preview and then when you view it on the external preview?

In my system I see no difference (I have a 3.0Ghz). What processor do you have?
Venom wrote on 12/28/2003, 7:16 PM
Sorry for jumping in with a naive question concerning external preview: My monitor is hooked up exactly like adviced (firewire to DV-cam, from there to monitor) and works fine, but as soon as I activate any FX somewhere in the line the preview switches back to internal. Is this the way it should be? Since I want the external monitor primarily for color correction, there isn't much use in it now. I have a P4-3Ghz system with 2GB of RAM. I use a GeForce4 card with an extended screen on 2 TFTs.
Thanks for any advice.

Optons - Preferences. Go to the Video Device tab and CHECK the "Recompress edited frames" box.
