Blurring a moving face

Sierra Nomad Photography wrote on 8/26/2009, 12:04 AM
I've been able to blur stationary objects, but when I try to blur moving objects I have a problem. I use the keyframe controller to set a key frame, then add the bezier curve. I put another keyrame at the end point in the clip, and add another bezier curve. Then I add the pixelate FX. Problem is, the blur doesn't move until the next keyframe is reached, and it then jumps directly to that position.

I've tried it with the sync cursor checked and unchecked. I'd appreciate any thoughts.

It sounds like you have set the Keyframes to the "Hold" motion transition control. Right click on the Keyframe and select one of the more appropriate motion transition controls : Linear, Fast, Slow Smooth, Sharp etc etc . . but NOT Hold.

If this is NOT the case get back here - yeah?

Hmmm. No, I checked, and it's set to linear. I tried "smooth" just to check, and it made no difference.

Something else that's perplexing. Sometimes when I add the bezier curve the outlying area of the clip turns dark (masking), and sometimes it doesn't. Same clip, first keyframe shows no mask, the 2nd (last) keyframe does.

Thanks for the idea.

I just followed your approach, but sorry, I can't repro what you are seeing. I have "Smooth" working nicely and "Hold" does exactly what I said it should.

As to the Bezier flashing dark and so on, that could be because you have inter-KFs settings going on. And maybe THIS is a clue to what you are also getting. Expand that timeline and see if you have covered any Keyframes. Sometimes I get myself twisted about with KFs laying on top of each other. Could be your "other" issue too?

Thanks Grazie, but no, that's not it either.

Not sure if, being new to Vegas, it's just a step that I'm not doing, or if it's something wacky.

I can add keyframes (and new Bezier curves with each keyframe) but the curves I created in previous keyframes remain. Two kf's I end up with two bcs. I've tried deleting the bc after making the new kf, but, when playing back, the bcs remain locked in place, the first disappearing when reaching the next keyframe (where I deleted it and created another bc) at which point the new bc appears.

This isn't the only bizarre thing happening either. Wondering if it's an incompatibility problem with my vista computer.

Never mind. I'll just do it in my other NLE (have running on an XP machine).

Thanks for the thoughts, though.

Yes. It jumps because it is a SECOND mask. If you keyframe that FIRST mask and CHANGE the position or shape of the FIRST mask, then Vegas will interpolate the in-between frames. Do not create a second mask. Copy the keyframe of the FIRST mask and paste it to the end point, then CHANGE that mask. To move it's position select all the bezier points and drag it to the new position and use all the various tools to change it's shape.

xberk:

THANKS! Boy, that's easy.

I really wanted to learn how to do it in Vegas, instead of always having to go back to my old NLE for things.

I thought it was a pretty simple process in Media Studio Pro; considerably simpler in Vegas.

My Bad!

I did NOT repeat your method, apologies. What I did was to create a Mask, added a SECOND KF and then MOVED the WHOLE mask to the SECOND position. So now I had a Mask moving position over time. And as you say, "easy".

Thanks xberk for the clarity.
